  • Western WAR PROPAGANDA Makes Peace in Ukraine Impossible | Dr. Ulrike Guérot (Part 2)

Western WAR PROPAGANDA Makes Peace in Ukraine Impossible | Dr. Ulrike Guérot (Part 2)

German original here:    • Der Ukrainekrieg im Kopf. Kriegspropa...   Part 1 of the interview here:    • Germany Does It Again: Professor FIRE...   Ulrike Guérot, one of Germany's most prominent intellectuals, explains how war propaganda in Europe makes peace with Russia impossible, why she is accused of being a "Putin apologist," and what conclusions we can draw from the blatant pro-war rhetoric of public media. Dr. Guérot is the founder and co-director of the European Democracy Lab. She was a professor at the University for Continuing Education Krems starting in 2016, and from 2021 to 2023, she held the position of professor of European politics at the University of Bonn until her dismissal last year due to plagiarism accusations. Dr. Guérot has also been a critic of government COVID-19 measures. At that time, she publicly presented important analyses of the social situation, including on the channel of the late philosopher Gunnar Kaiser. When the Ukraine war broke out, she was one of the first signatories of the Manifesto for Peace by Sahra Wagenknecht and Alice Schwarzer. She has also repeatedly advocated for an immediate diplomatic solution to the war in the German media. For her realism-based analyses, she was harshly criticized. Personally, I consider Ms. Guérot to be one of the greatest German thinkers of our time. Therefore, it is a distinct honor for me to speak with her today.

Germany Does It Again: Professor FIRED For Critical Political Analysis | Dr Ulrike Guérot (Part 1)

German original Video here:    • Kündigung Wegen Systemkritik. Der Fal...   If nothing else works, there is always the accusation of plagiarism. When one of the smartest and most critical voices in German political science is dismissed from one day to the next over dubious accusations of plagiarism in one of her popular (non academic) books, that should make us all nervous. What is happening in Germany? In this interview, Dr Ulrike Guérot explains why the University of Bonn terminated her employment contract and what the accusations are about and how she is fighting against her public demonisation. Dr. Guérot is the founder and co-director of the European Democracy Lab. On the march? Prospects for populism across Europe

On the march? Prospects for populism across Europe Speakers: Francisco José Contrera, Professor of Philosophy of Law, University of Seville Ulrike Guerot, Professor of European Policy, University of Bonn; founder, European Democracy Lab Ralph Schoellhamer, Assistant Professor in Political Science and Economics, Webster Vienna Private University, visiting fellow, MCC Sergio Velasco, political scientist, analyst and political commentator; founder, Filosofia Política The upcoming European Parliament elections have focused the minds of European elites. According to many polls, populist parties are set to deliver strong results. In response, there has been much handwringing about the renewed ‘threat’ of populism, and European leaders have sought to make ‘concessions’ to majority views on issues ranging from migration, agriculture and EU reform. But it seems as if many are minded to reject these attempts to ‘buy off’ voters. Farmers protests continue across the continent and polls show increasing exasperation with the failure to get to grips with migration. Will populism play a key role in upcoming elections and beyond? What issues promise to unite populists from very different corners of the continent? Is there anything to learn from the different populist forces in a variety of countries? Ultimately, is populist sentiment just a response to a variety of local issues, or does the populist moment reflect anything about the state of politics within European nations more generally?
